The internet has changed the face of work for women. Women are breaking through glass ceilings, becoming bosses, and leaving traditional careers for new opportunities in the digital world. But who is a lady with the backing of an entire community?

Meet Oluchi Enebeli and the team whose goal over the next three years is to impact 100,000 women with the technicality to succeed in the Web3 space.

**Gems hidden in the shadows of traditional stereotypes: From eggs to pupa.**

"While it is interesting for us to look at what we have accomplished in the last few months, I think it's important to take an inventory of where we've come from," Oluchi said to the rest of the team with a smile as lovely as the frost at the first standup meeting of the month.  

In 2017, Oluchi began work as a web development intern at a company dominated by women, where she enjoyed women's creativity, resilience, and passion. Although she had been in tech for a while, she became increasingly aware as she progressed in her career that women in tech companies were underrepresented. 

It is no secret that there are many reasons behind this disparity - from lack of awareness and access to employment opportunities to discrimination by prospective employers. The fact that most ladies lack the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in a tech career became a significant pain point for Oluchi. But what can be done about an ignored problem?

Oluchi mobilized Jennifer Echenim, Faith Obafemi, Dara Olayebi, Ajoke Asunmonu, Chidinma Umeh and Nkechi Enebeli and started off LadiesDoTech. She also got support from the likes of Clement Hugbo, founder of Web3D, who also showed his support for women empowerment. The vision was simple- to help onboard ladies with little or no experience in tech into tech while also assisting those already in web2 to transition into web3.

Ideas they say are like slippery fish; they seem to have a peculiar knack for getting away from us. In 2017, LadiesDoTech was formed but was never implemented. However, in 2020, LadiesDoTech made its way into the public's consciousness through Twitter, Instagram, and Slack. As the community grew, it metamorphosed into Web3 Ladies, which currently has over 15,000 community members.

## **The not-so-fun part of community building.**

## Organising a great event with a small team and only a few people showing up can be frustrating. They say a thousand people can feed ten people, but ten cannot feed a thousand. But what if the supposed thousand doesn't show up after nights of toiling?

Chidinma and Jennifer first struggled with managing and growing a community as they were saddled with the responsibilities of getting members. For their first 100 members, they started organising "community" events to explain the nitty-gritty of Web3. Participants were required to be part of the community to gain access to the event. It seems like an intelligent approach, right? However, while the ladies were still celebrating their little victory, another battle needed to be won.

All communities have work to do, but where can these ladies find compassionate members to build the vision of a non-profit?

**The road to exploits and everything in between**

Building a community requires a team that believes in and executes the community's vision. To build a resilient team, Oluchi and the rest of the team thought it wise to transition most of the core team from a volunteer-based role to a paid role.

Although it wasn't convenient for the team since most of the costs came from personal funds, the team started reaping the fruit of this strategic move as it yielded prolific results. Money truly is an effective, powerful, and simple motivator. 

"We need to give a shout-out to Adaugo Ezeala, Mercy Ajiboye and Oyindamola Abiola, who were not founding members but have attained the founding members status through their dedication and contribution. In the spirit of appreciation, I would also like to thank the Leadership team, Blessing Onyelobi, Precious Ezema, Ijidolapo Ijiwoye, the Core team, Precious Lebonu, Toluwanimi Ajiboye, Samuel Ajibola, Feranmi Olowoyo and our mentor, Godspower Eze of Web3 track especially as he has been with us from the start." Oluchi chuckled with an appreciative tone. "Since getting the dream team, we have trained over 350 mentees across four African countries, starting with Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa, and we are working on our fifth."

Oluchi's defining moment of exploits would be when Web3 Ladies started signing partnerships with prominent crypto leaders in the industry to educate and onboard more ladies into the community. It would help if you read about the partnership with FTX, Polygon, and ShecodeAfrica. We almost forgot to mention the mentorship and work tool program; she interrupted the click-click sound coming from the keyboard.

The team introduced the Mentorship program for newbies and knowbies to become job-ready tech staff. The mentorship program is an arena where mentors meet mentees. As part of the Mentorship programs, ladies were organised into cohorts for a sense of self-confidence and to whet their appetite for endless possibilities. 

In the absence of tools, what good is a skill? The work tool program soon kicked off by providing laptops, Mifi with over 16GB of data, and inverters to support over 500 ladies in their quest to secure their dream tech jobs. It's a good time to say #WAGMI. 

**Towards 100,000 community members**

It's 2022, and Web3Ladies is rapidly becoming the go-to community for most African ladies seeking a community to acquire skills, learn about the new web (Web 3.0), network with other like-minded women, and share opportunities.**Bold**

These are some of the accomplishments Oluchi, and the team are extremely proud of. Slowly but surely, they are taking their baby global, but the reward for good work is more work.

"Web 3.0 is starting to transform the world, and it's going to be as disruptive as the inception of the internet". Oluchi continues with a conviction as sure as hell. 

A variety of sectors are expected to adopt Web3.0 blockchain, including financial services to retail and e-commerce, media and entertainment, healthcare, IT, government, and energy. 

**So how do we position 100,000 ladies at the forefront of these reforms?**

A satisfied expression crosses Oluchi's face as she concludes the meeting for the day with Where there is a will, there is a way.

Web3Ladies celebrates its first anniversary with 25 worktools beneficiaries. Over the next three years, the plan is to equip 100,000 women with the technical skills they need to succeed in the Web3 space.

After a full year of building a tech community of 15,000 ladies, Web3Ladies celebrates its first year success of becoming a frontier-driving community for both newbies and veterans in the web3 space.

Since Web3Ladies launched a year ago, it has partnered with prominent crypto leaders, trained over 350 mentees in four African countries, introduced a mentoring program, a club workspace, and work tool programs that prepare novices and veterans to become job-ready tech staff.

To celebrate the first phase of its 1st anniversary, the list of its worktool assistance program beneficiaries were unveiled live on Instagram, moderated  by Blessing the events Manager.

In the words of Enebeli Oluchi, founder, Web3Ladies “Daring to dream, believing in oneself, and taking risks to chase one’s dreams are the precedence of becoming successful. Looking back on the year that has passed, there are quite a few wins, uncharted waters and several ongoing progress. 

Oluchi goes on to assert that we are committed to building an ecosystem of empowered ladies in the tech industry over the next few years. But going solo is not the answer, and our success is better when we work together. So we will begin by impacting 1 life at a time. 

Until we have bridged the gender equality gap in the ecosystem, we will continue to drive this goal to onboard the next 100,000 women with the technical capabilities to thrive in this space”.

There is nothing more beautiful than an inspiring story of growth. At Web3Ladies, we had an eventful and impactful 2022. Beyond the challenges, it was our first full calendar year, and there were remarkable achievements from our community. Honestly, the high hasn't worn off yet.

2022 was the year we left our comfort zone, and leapt. Our team had to come up with innovative ideas to empower women and girls in technology across Africa. In addition, we looked at other key partnerships that would help us reach our goal of onboarding over 100,000 women into Web3.

### W3L Cohort III Mentorship Program with Polygon

In the course of the year, we realised that we needed to partner more with other leading communities to achieve the goal of educating and onboarding more ladies into the tech community. W3L Cohort III Mentorship program would not be possible without Polygon, hats off for the support. As a result of this partnership, we were able to offer more training and mentor more women into Web3, having mentored 350 ladies so far in cohorts I & II. 

### Getting Web2 communities onto Web3 with SheCodeAfrica

As part of our efforts to close the skill gap in tech, we collaborated with SheCode Africa to deliver free blockchain training to ladies. The partnership was a beginner-friendly training and up-skill program for Blockchain enthusiasts which ran for 4 weeks with a focus on Blockchain technology and Smart Contracts. The program provided immersive experiences for participants through mentorship, training schedules, and hands-on project experience.

Along the line, it also became apparent that onboarding more ladies into tech will require more than just training, as training without tools is useless. The work tool program provided laptops, Mifi with over 16GB of data, and inverters to support ladies in their quest to secure their dream tech jobs. Also, we owe our thanks to our individual sponsors who gave passionately to make the assistance program a big hit.

At Web3Ladies, we’re intentional about building a community of ladies who are exceptional, passionate, and pioneering in the African Web3 space. In light of this, we are excited to share that we are partnering with She Code Africa – an online platform that empowers young women and girls in technology across Africa, to close the skill gaps and provide access to high-quality blockchain training to ladies for free.

Most notably, the partnership is a beginner-friendly training and up-skill program for Blockchain enthusiasts to gain foundational knowledge in blockchain technology. The Upskill program will run for 4-weeks with a focus on Blockchain technology and Smart Contracts.

**What exactly does this mean for us and our partner?**

Web3Ladies being the largest Web3 Community for ladies in Africa, this partnership with She Code Africa aligns with our mission to on-board the next 100,000 ladies with the technicality to thrive in the Web3 space over the next 3 years. The 4-week program will provide immersive experiences for participants through mentorship, training schedules, and hands-on project experience.
Following a similar partnership with Polygon earlier this month, this one comes at a similar time. Apart from empowering ladies, this partnership will provide job seekers with skills and interest in emerging technologies that are usually out of reach for African ladies. As a result of this partnership, a new trend of mentorship and training will emerge in Africa.

Highly enthusiastic ladies who are currently members of the She Code Africa community in Web2 looking to transition into the Web3 space will be admitted into the bootcamp.

Web3Ladies kicks off onboarding Web2 communities into Web3

On the quest to onboard over 100,000 ladies into Web3, Web3Ladies, the largest Web3 Community for ladies in Africa has announced a new partnership with Polygon, a leading blockchain technology company dedicated to creating a decentralized future. 

In the Web3 ecosystem today, women still have a disproportionate share of the workforce compared to men. The current narrative about Web3 space is that it is a men’s club. However, there’s still time to Steer the ship for more women to smash the narrative sown into our society’s fabric. And this is what the Partnership between Web3Ladies and Polygon hopes to achieve, with Polygon coming onboard as one of the major sponsors for her Cohort III mentorship, Web3Ladies will be able to offer quality trainings and mentor more ladies into Web3, taking a huge step forward from the 350 ladies mentored so far in their cohort I & II

Speaking on the Web3Ladies achievements since launch, Oluchi mentioned; “As of now, the Web3Ladies community has over 13,000 members across different platforms, who are spread across different African countries, such as Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, etc, and 700 of the 816 women who applied to her current mentorship cohort (III) have been onboarded into the program. Global Cryptocurrency exchange FTX and Web3Ladies today announced an official partnership to collaborate on #WomenWhoCrypto, a campaign aimed at driving adoption and onboarding African women into the crypto space through education.

The Business Development Manager of FTX in Africa Adebayo Juwon said FTX Africa is delighted to work with Web3Ladies on this campaign. In his words “We are strong believers in education, and we have been actively collaborating and engaging in dialogue with players in the ecosystem. This partnership is no different. Web3Ladies unveils its ‘Work Tool Assistance’ program to support over 1,500 ladies with work tools such as laptops, inverters and internet devices in 2050 and 150 work tools in three years.

“Web3Ladies is seeking to build an ecosystem of empowered ladies in blockchain and we will start by impacting 1 life at a time. We have since the inception of this organization delivered 2 mentorship cohorts and have the 3rd underway,” Oluchi Enebeli, founder of Web3Ladies said in a statement.

She states further that overtime, the three major hindrances women face while transitioning into the tech space are lack of access to a working laptop; lack of access to internet connectivity, and access to stable electricity supply to keep their laptops and internet alive.

Enebeli said that it is also glaring that only a few companies give out these tools as part of their cooperative social responsibility programs in support of women. Hence, the initiative was created as part of the Web3Ladies mission to onboard and empower more ladies in Web3 to further narrow the gender inequality gap by launching the Work-tool support Program.

“Through our community of ladies in the Web3 space, we are on a mission to onboard the next 100,000 ladies with the technicalities to thrive in this space and we will continue to drive this goal till we have bridged the gender equality gap in the ecosystem,” Enebeli stated.

She also took the opportunity to appreciate individual donors like Jennifer Echenim, Ajoke Asunmonu, Oyindamola Abiola, and Oghenenyore Clement Hugbo who alongside herself have contributed to the initial set of worktools on ground.

She equally made a call for sponsorship and partnership via the website and their other social media platforms to join them on this mission, stating that anyone can sponsor at least one work tool for a lady with a minimum of $50 – N30, 000.

Enebeli disclosed further that the larger vision of the initiative is to empower 10,000 ladies with work tools to progress in tech by 2050, leveraging assistance from sponsors, partners and beneficiaries of the programs who will be expected to pay it forward also by sponsoring a lady or more with work tools when they are settled into a financially stable job.
